This song is part of 7th Thirumurai (special hymns sung by 63 Nayanmars on Lord Siva), sung by the great Saivite Nayanar Sri Sundara Perumaan. After visiting many holy places, Nayanar was visiting a holy place called “Thirumudukundram, Tamilnadu” and sang 10 poems on Lord Siva. Interestingly Only 3 lines of 10th stanza is available. The beauty of this decad is the continuous usage of the word “Nambi” throughout the 10 songs. It means “one who is superior amongst beings (Purushottama), one who is complete without any blemish”. To me, a special meaning stands out — Nambi also refers faith/belief, and he is the one who never lets down devotees that have immense faith on him.
மெய்யைமுற் றப்பொடிப் பூசியோர் நம்பி
வேதம்நான் கும்விரித் தோதியோர் நம்பி
கையிலோர் வெண்மழு ஏந்தியோர் நம்பி
கண்ணு மூன்றுடை யாயொரு நம்பி
செய்யநம் பிசிறு செஞ்சடை நம்பி
திரிபுரந் தீயெழச் செற்றதோர் வில்லால்
எய்தநம் பியென்னை ஆளுடை நம்பி
எழுபிறப் பும்எங்கள் நம்பிகண் டாயே. 1பொன்னைப்போலும் திருமேனியை உடையவரே, புலியினது தோலை அரையில் உடுத்தவரே, நன்கு செய்யப்பட்ட மூன்று மதில்களையும் முன்பு எரித்தவரே, திருமுதுகுன்றத்தில் விரும்பி இருப்பவரே, அடிகளே, மின்னல் போலும் நுண்ணிய இடையை யுடையவளும், ` பரவை ` என்னும் பெயரினளுமாகிய இவள் முன்னே, அடியேனது துன்பங் கெடுதற்கு நீவிர் என் செய்தவாறு!
