Wimbledon Memories — Eternal Bridesmaid, and they were the best too
1. Despite winning the other 3 major tournaments in 1977 , Guillermo Vilas could not wimbledon even once. He was not suited for grass at all, according to him
2. That cunning swede, Mats Wilander again, despite his domination in all other majors, he could not make it. Infact, in the year 1988, i was pretty happy when John McEnroe taught him how to play grasscourt tennis by defeating him in straight sets (that same year, Wilander won a gruelling 5 setter against Lendl in US open).
3. What can one say about Ivan Lendl, when he was the eternal bridesmaid and losing against McEnroe, Connors, BB, Cash, Edberg etc. Finally, as a coach, he enabled one of his proteges to win wimbledon recently.
4. Miloslav Mecir, my personal favourite had the game and lacked the fitness to sustain a gruelling two weeks tournament.
